A fantastic day of racing goes ahead at the Eagle Farm Racecourse this Saturday, as the next feature in the Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival goes ahead in the form of the AAMI Stradbroke Raceday with a fantastic showcase of thoroughbred horses scheduled.
Currently going into the race as favourite to take out the 2010 Brisbane Cup is Tinseltown at $5.50.
While Queensland’s richest race, the $1 million Group 1 Stradbroke Handicap (1400m) will headline the day, due to jump at 2.30pm, the Group 2 Brisbane Cup (2400m) has drawn a full field of 18 horses with two emergencies.
A noted change to the line up is the scratching of the Clarry Conners-trained Albertinelli, and as the 2010 Brisbane Cup contender drew the coveted inside barrier, the Group 3 Premier’s Cup (2200m) runner up has opened the field up to other contenders.
Currently going into the race as favourite to take out the 2010 Brisbane Cup is Tinseltown at $5.50.
The Michael Moroney-trained gelding has drawn well with the middle seventh barrier, and despite his disappointing finish in the Premier’s Cup, the six-year-old managed a one-two in his two previous starts.
Another favourite among the punters is the Robert Smerdon-trained Persian Star at $6.50.
The five-year-old mare has taken the top spot in all of her last three starts and will certainly be a strong contender for the 2010 Brisbane Cup on Saturday.
Indikator and Newport have both drawn well with barriers two and four respectively and are both equal in the odds at $8.
Winner of the Premier’s Cup – Tabulate, may have drawn the widest alley, but the Eagle Farm-based gelding dominated the field at Doomben, with several of his rivals in that race starting on Saturday.
With such a convincing run behind him, the five-year-old will provide a lucrative payout if he does claim a consecutive win as he heads in at $12.
Also taking place on Saturday at Eagle Farm will be the Group 1 Queensland Derby (2400m), the Group 1 T.J. Smith (1600m), and the Group 2 Queensland Guineas (1600m).
